Week 3 NFL Free Pick Article
By Adam Barone—At first glance one might think that the Green Bay home match up against the San Diego Chargers is an easy pick. The Chargers are only giving four points to the Pack. This is one of the best teams in the league against one of the worst, right? Not so fast—the Packers will cover four points and have a chance to win the game.
Starting the season with an entirely new coaching staff, the Chargers have scored 14 points in each of their two games. They’ve been shut out in the first half of each of these games and reside close to the bottom in most offensive stat categories. Matching up against the Bears and Patriots could be to blame, yes, but consider that the Chargers scored in the first half of every game in 2006. Playing at Lambeau against a quality Packers’ offense will not make things easier. The Packers have won their last six games and are coming off their highest scoring total in nearly two seasons. They’re also 2-0 this season against the spread.
Brett Favre is 4-0 in his career against the Chargers, winning the last match up in 2003 in San Diego 38-21. The Packers outscored the Chargers in those games a shocking total of 131-47.
Historically, home underdogs are the safest bet
against the spread, winning about 51% of the time. Granted, San Diego
has weapons. But the Chargers have looked second rate against two defenses
that they should be able to compete with, considering these weapons.
Brett Favre and the young Packers will be ready at home and won’t
back down. Get this line at 4.5 if you can find it.
