By Adam Barone—Carolina seems to pop up in our picks a lot, but the week 15 selection is Seattle favored by seven points at those pesky Panthers.
As usual it’s worth pointing out that the Panthers are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight home games. Let’s all congratulate them for beating the 49ers, even though the rest of us don’t expect applause for wiping our butts.

As for the Seahawks (9-4), they need to win in order to still have a chance at stealing the NFC’s no. 2 seed and a first round bye from the Packers (11-2). That’s some serious motivation.

The Hawks are 5-0 against the spread and straight up in their last five games. They’ve really gotten hot at the right time. Their only loss in their last seven was a 33-30 overtime defeat at an up-and-coming Cleveland team.

Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck’s uniform must actually be flame retardant, as he’s passed for 249 or more yards in five of Seattle’s last six games. He’s thrown for two or more touchdowns in seven of their last eight games.

Panthers’ rookie Matt Moore could start at quarterback Sunday. Wide receiver Steve Smith is probably super excited about that. Smith misses starting QB Jake Delhomme like most of us miss hot Britney Spears. Steve Smith’s game basically got fat and lost its kids to Kevin Federline this season, as the Panthers’ best playmaker hasn’t seen the end zone since week six.

The Panthers possess a pair of decent running backs, but neither is particularly reliable. Their defense is average and the team as a whole has nothing to play for. This should be a relatively stress-free bet.
