travel to the left coast to face the 49ers. The Vikings are favored
by 8.5 because…well because the 9ers suck.
Last week San Fran went to Carolina, a team that is absolutely putrid
at home, and found a way to not win. That’s what the 49ers seem
to do these days—not win.
Remember before the season started and everyone was jumping on the 49ers’
bandwagon? It seemed strangely similar to the 2006 season when everyone
loved Arizona in the preseason.
Yeah, make a mental note of that—those teams that everyone is crapping their pants about during the preseason, saying that they’re the big dark horse for the coming season—uh, they’re not gonna be any good.
The 49ers are 3-9 this season, 1-4 at home.
Adrian Peterson came back last week against Detroit and ran for 116 yards and two scores. He now has 11 touchdowns on the season and leads the NFL with 1197 rushing yards even though he’s missed all of two games and part of a third.
The Vikings are first in the NFL in rushing. San Fran’s defense ranks 27th against the run.
Not only are the Vikings great at rushing, they’re also first in rushing defense. That spells bad news for the San Francisco offense, which can’t really do diddly poo anyway. They typically hope that RB Frank Gore can go crazy and find a way to score them points.
The 49ers rank 32nd in total offense, 32nd in passing yards and 27th in rushing yards. Frank Gore broke 100 yards for the first time two weeks ago against Arizona, but followed it up with only 58 yards on the ground last week against Carolina.
The 49ers are 1-6 against the spread in their last
seven games as an underdog, in their last seven home games, and in their
last seven games overall.
On top of all that the Vikings are playing for a playoff spot. They’re
gaining confidence and playing hard. The 49ers just gave up 31 points
to the Panthers. They have nothing to play for at all.
