Week 9 NFL Free Pick Article

By Adam Barone— Last week the Titans capped off an undefeated week for us on Monday night, so everyone’s feeling confident heading into week 9.

This Sunday the tuna’s fish travel to Mile High to face the completely useless Broncos’ defense, clearly the most appealing pick on the board.
That’s “useless” as in third to last in the league against the run. They’re a long way from “Orange Crush.” All they do now is get crushed.

That's Right.

The last five times these teams have played the Dolphins have covered the spread. Four of those five times they’ve been the underdog, as they are Sunday. If you’re the guy who’s saying “well then the Broncos are due,” then you’re also the guy who’s saying “I don’t understand why my wallet is empty.”

Denver allows an average of 154.6 yards per game on the ground. In case you weren’t watching the nationally televised game, they allowed the Patriots’ Sammy Morris to run 16 times for 138 yards and a touchdown two weeks ago.

Sammy Morris. Over eight yards per carry.

It’s safe to say that Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams pose a much stronger threat than Morris and should at least put up similar numbers, even in Denver.

The Broncos are also allowing 240 yards per game through the air, good for 28th.

Denver’s offense, on the other hand, is slowing down quite a bit. All of Jay Cutler’s numbers have been steadily declining since his amazing start to the season. At this point it’s safe to say that the expectations are higher than his likely output.

Chad Pennington and the pea-shooter he has for an arm come in actually leading a formidable passing attack. He topped 300 yards last week on 22 of 30 passing against Buffalo. Ted Ginn had a breakout game with seven catches for 175 yards.
Champ Bailey will be missing four to six weeks with a groin injury. Expect Pennington to put up some more impressive numbers, along with Ginn, Anthony Fasano, and probably Greg Camarillo.

Denver will have plenty of trouble stopping Miami’s underrated offense, and won’t move the ball as easily as one might think. The Broncos are tough at home in prime time, but this is an afternoon game. Take the fins and look forward to bragging rights on Monday.
