Week 6 NFL Free Pick Article
By Adam Barone— First things first—last
week was a cover. Sage Rosenfels is the Tim “the tool man”
Taylor of the NFL. Fortunately for Houston, Bob Villa is back this week
from his intestinal issues. Alright, maybe calling Matt Schaub the “Bob
Villa” of the NFL is giving him way too much credit, but Rosenfels
is an idiot. Period.
Moving on.
The Panthers consistently play the Buccaneers well, even in Tampa. In fact, they’ve covered the spread four of the last five times they’ve played there. They’ve also covered in 10 of their last 14 match ups overall. To make matters worse, and to further bombard you with trends, the road team in this match up has covered five of seven, and the underdog eight of 10. That’s good for the Panthers if you haven’t had your Wheaties yet.
Jake Del-home-slice is 8-2 against the Buccaroos dating back to 2002. He’s developed some chemistry with Muhsin Muhammad since the two were reunited this season. Muhammad is averaging almost 72 yards receiving per game with two touchdowns opposite Steve Smith. The Bucs allow well over 200 yards passing per contest and have surrendered eight passing touchdowns already this season.
Yes, the Panthers’ offensive line is banged up. They don’t have much chance of setting the world on fire on the ground against Tampa’s stingy run defense even with a plethora of healthy fat guys.
And yes, Jeff Garcia is in for Brian Griese. The
two are so similar aside from Garcia’s mobility that it shouldn’t
make much difference. In a win over a Delhomme-less Carolina team last
season Garcia was 15-25 for 176 yards with four rushes for a whopping
10 yards and a score.
Expect Delhomme to lead the Panthers to victory.
