By Adam Barone—Don’t sleep on the 49ers. They have plenty of offensive firepower to take your money if you bet against them. The players are all rallying around Mike Martz. That includes star tailback Frank Gore, who was quoted as saying that things are a lot different now than before. Everyone on the team knows Martz has won, and they believe that he can take them where they want to go.

This week though, we’re betting against Detroit as much as we’re betting with San Francisco.

The Lions just can’t seem to not suck. They disguised themselves as a decent team early last season, but were quickly found out and thrown in the bottom-feeder slammer.

Detroit is 8-49 in their last 8+49 games. Their also 1-9 in, surprisingly, their last 10 games. They can’t stop the run. They can’t stop the pass. They want to establish a running game, but are always behind and forced to pass. They can’t tie their shoes, and they fall down when trying to chew gum.

The Motor City Morons are 0-5 ATS in their last five games, as well as in their last five road games. They’re also 1-10 against San Fran since 1988.

Continuing the trend on trends, the Lions are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 on grass, and 1-7 ATS in their last eight versus the NFC. Getting it yet? Every time the Lions play an angel gouges its eyes out.

J.T. O’Sullivan has thrown for 516 yards already, enough to have the 9ers ranked in the top 10 in passing. Ironically enough, the Lions allow an average of 240 passing yards per game.

Gore is eating up real estate at a 4.76 yards per carry clip. The last time these teams met, November of 2006, he ran for 159 yards and a score.

The Lions, on the other hand, went to Atlanta and got embarrassed week one. ATLANTA. Traveling all the way across the country to face an evil offensive genius whom they recently pissed off via firing is bound to turn out poorly for them.
