NFL Betting Tips

Back when AceFootballPicks.com need some content we branched out and had a few expert NFL picks handicappers guest write some content for our website. This is one of those time tested handicapping advice articles concerning keeping a journal when NFL betting.

There's a ton of talk about money management as a key to winning in sports betting, but there's another key that's just as important—the journal. No, I'm not talking about a flowery notebook where you keep all your inner most secrets and fantasies about sports betting. Rather, I'm talking about a concrete listing of your wagers and sports handicapping thoughts. Sure you need the natural ability when football handicapping to predict the outcome of games with your NFL picks, but without a sound game plan to find flaws in your sports betting game, it will be tough to become an expert sports handicapper. At first, the journal won't seem like a big deal, but down the road it will pay off in spades.

You can use this journal for any kind of sports betting, but this example we will use NFL betting. Your journal can be a trusty notebook or stored on the computer. Having it on the computer is a nice touch—especially if you can print it out. Today, I will give you a list of items to include in your journal for each football game you wager on. This journal, as you will see, is more than just a way to know where you stand financially. By looking at the past, you can win more in the present and future.

Here's a listing of items to include with each entry:

1. The teams playing. For instance, Miami Dolphins at Washington Redskins.
2. The betting lines of the game when you placed the bet. For instance, Dolphins +7, Over/Under 38.
3. The amount you wagered.
4. The date of this transaction.
5. Why you placed the bet.

Let's talk about item number 5. When you talk about why you made the wager, don't talk about how it was a sunny day and the air was pleasant. Talk about a few major points that affected your decision. For instance, the fact that the Dolphins have a 400 yard per game passer whereas the Redskins didn’t made you ultimately pull the trigger. More good examples are the team you placed a football bet on had a distinct advantage in the trenches. Maybe the team you wagered on figured to control the clock with their strong rushing attack. Whatever the case write down the reasons you made the move to place the NFL bet.

Finally, leave room in each entry so you can go back and put in some notes about the outcome. Jot down the outcome, including the final score, and how much you won or lost. Over time, you will begin to see patterns and if certain criteria you are using to pick sides is working or not.

We hoped you enjoyed the handicapping advice on NFL betting. Feel free to read more expert handicapping articles at our website.
