NFC South
The word 'obvious' comes to mind when we think of who will take the division and who will come in dead last. The debate here is who will take second and who will take third
New O. 'O' for Orleans and Obvioiusly. The Saints kept their championship team nearly intact this year but didn't dodge the hungry money syndrome of players jumping ship for a better contract. However, Brees is still Brees. He's throwing to the same receivers and lets not discard the fact that New O's running game is still strong. What's notable about this season is that their schedule isn't extremely tough. The NFC south is riddled with below average teams and just when their schedule is beginning to get tough, New O gets a bye in week 10 to freshen up against their toughest stretch of opponents. The Saints have a very good chance of repeating last years success. Getting past Dallas in the playoffs will prove to be their largest hurdle.
Now, to decide who gets second or third in the NFC South is more of an analysis of the lesser of the two evils
ATL... Wins. Both Carolina and ATL finished at roughly 50%. ATL edged out Carolina with 9 wins. However, Carolina ended the season with two 'gimmies'. Minny and New O didn't need the games and started their children and a few homeless people to give rest to their key players they needed for the playoffs. Since then, Carolina hasn't improved. In fact, they have declined. They lost a key player and are once again searching for a Golden Arm. Don't expect another two 'gimmies' at the end of this season for Carolina. Zona, Pitts, and Atl will need these games. Carolina's schedule isn't exactly 'tough' but who, on the Panthers, will make the plays anyway? Our advice to Fox: Dump all of your games this season. Get the 1st draft pick and trade that pick for a passing offense to go along with your running game.
And...
Carolina... Loses. ATL is a fickle team. Since 2002, they are exactly 50/50 in straight up win/losses. We have good-great-terrible-good-terrible track record. They need... better contract negotiators perhaps? To stop staring at the dolla' sign maybe? ATL gets second in the NFC South mainly because they have relatively improved their team from last year. ATL picked up some potentials to actually fill the gaps in pass protection to go along with their ever increasing rushing defense. ATL also has a strong Red Zone D. When the pressure is on, everyone seems to realize they are playing football. The only real problem in the debate over Carolina and ATL is that ATL does have a tougher schedule than Carolina.
TB What can we really talk about here. The Buc is rebuilding. Like anyother team in this mode, the expectation is at a minimum. They will probably surprise a few teams; hell, they may even catch Carolina. We don't expect them to do much but Freeman continues to develop nicely (ahem, so far). We expect that the largest fan based team will have something to give back to the die-hards in 2013.
